Ira and Isla Baby and Kids is a children’s clothing brand founded by Jasleen Kaur. Jasleen, with a strong background in fashion and a passion for creating high-quality garments, has turned her vision into a brand that focuses on sustainability, local craftsmanship, and timeless design.
From Women’s Wear to Children’s Fashion
Jasleen Kaur’s venture into children’s clothing started with her background as a women’s wear designer. After interning at Matthew Williamson and earning a degree at the London College of Fashion, Jasleen encountered financial challenges, leading her to become a textile teacher. During her pregnancy with her first child, Ira, she noticed the low quality of children’s clothing available in the market.
Leveraging her expertise as a master pattern cutter, machinist seamstress, she began crafting her own children’s clothing at home. This marked the beginning of her journey towards establishing Ira and Isla Baby and Kids in 2013.
“I wanted to create a brand where everything was local, sustainable, and meticulously crafted,” says Jasleen. “Seeing the quality issues in children’s wear inspired me to bring my skills and passion for design into this new venture.”
Handcrafted Quality and Sustainable Practices
Ira and Isla Baby and Kids are dedicated to creating durable, sustainable clothing. Each item is made in Britain by local manufacturers, ensuring the highest standards of craftsmanship and materials. Jasleen’s commitment to sustainability is evident in every aspect of the brand, from reducing waste in production to employing local artisans for hand-smocking and embroidery.
“Our dresses are designed to last,” Jasleen explains. “A dress for a three-year-old can be worn until the child is five. We incorporate extra length and adjustable features to extend the life of our garments, making them more sustainable and valuable.“
Looking Ahead
Since its official launch in 2023, Ira and Isla Baby and Kids have introduced a limited but iconic collection of high-priced dresses and accessories. The brand’s plans include expanding its range to include more mid-priced items, separates, and additional accessories. Jasleen aims to cater to a broader market while maintaining the brand’s commitment to quality and sustainability.
“In the next five to ten years, we hope to make a bigger impact within the children’s wear industry,” says Jasleen. “We’re developing new collections and exploring collaborations to bring more exciting products to our customers. Our goal is to continue creating beautiful, durable clothing that parents can cherish and pass down through generations.“
Ira and Isla Baby and Kids is not just a brand; it’s a testament to Jasleen Kaur’s passion for fashion, sustainability, and the local community. With a focus on quality craftsmanship and timeless design, the brand is poised to make a significant impact in the children’s wear industry.
